Toyota Avalon Second Generation (XX20) (2000-2005)

Toyota Avalon second generation

The second-generation Avalon got bigger in almost every way except the wheelbase. It was still based on the stretched Camry platform and powered by a VVT-i-equipped 1MZ-FE 3.0-liter V6 engine, shared with the Toyota Sienna, Lexus RX300, Lexus ES and the Toyota Highlander, making 210 hp and 298 Nm of torque, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The drag coefficient had been reduced to C d = 0.28.

This Avalon was available in two versions: the base XL and the deluxe XLS. Standard features include electroluminescent Optitron gauges, 4-wheel disc ABS, front side torso airbags, and 15" accent wheels. Optionally included are a JBL audio system, a navigation system, vehicle stability control and a front-row bench seat, which accommodates up to six passengers—a feature of full-size cars. However, the center front seat is adjusted for an adult passenger. Dual climate control, larger 16" wheels and power seats for the driver and passenger were also available.

The Avalon received a mid-cycle facelift for the 2003 model year, with a new grille and modified headlights and taillights. Minor interior changes include a wood-trimmed steering wheel for the XLS, slightly modified gauges, and a chrome emblem steering wheel added to the XL (once only standard for the XLS).
