Saturn sl First Generation
The First Generation SL and SW were built from model year 1991 through 1995. The first Saturn to roll out of the factory in Spring Hill, Tennessee was built on July 30, 1990, the same day GM’s CEO of that time, Roger Bonham Smith, is over.
The car was wine red with a light brown interior. There were originally two levels of luxury available. The SL1 trim used a 1.9-liter SOHC 4-cylinder engine, called the LK0, producing 63 kW of power, which was upgraded to the L24 engine producing 70 kW for the 1995 model year.

The SL2 trim used a DOHC engine. 1.9L 4-cylinder that produced 92 kW. The SL1 and SL2 both used 8.1 L/100 km of fuel in the city and 6.7 L/100 km on the highway. The SL1 and SL2 have a 45 liter fuel tank, and will therefore be able to travel approximately 618km on a single tank of fuel based on average fuel usage of 7.4L/100km. Base model owners report a real-life fuel economy level of approximately 6.2 to 5.7 L/100km on the highway with a manual transmission. For the 1991-1992 model years, the S Series featured the base “SL” model available only with a manual transmission, the “SL1”, “SL2” and “SC”. For 1993, the lineup expanded to include the SW1 and SW2 trucks, which were mechanically identical to the SL1 and SL2. All models received a restyled interior for 1995. All S-Series cars used either a five-speed manual transmission, or a four-speed automatic transmission. The transmissions of the models with the DOHC engine were oriented to improve acceleration, while the transmissions of the SOHC models were oriented to be more economical.
