Controversial but I think you should keep the highway bridge. Here’s how you can keep it with the map expansion.
If you expand the pillars and make the current bridge higher up, then you can fit it around the new bridge going to the new island.
Now in the case that the bridge collides with a mountain. (which it probably will judging by the images) Make it a tunnel entering the mountain.
Albeit with slight elevation adjustments, such as going near this new tunnel, the tunnel will wrap around the map like normal.
Hol’up, if these two tunnels so happen to be the in the same mountain. Then perhaps there could be an exit inside the tunnels to make it so that you can travel from one tunnel to the other quickly.
