What if the Murcielago had an SVJ variant?
Car manufacturers do this a lot, they show us a bangin’ new car, we ask are you going to make it?
And they say “nah”.
Now unfortunately that’s exactly what happened with this car. Sort of…
Here’s some backstory; the Lamborghini Cala was designed by the famed design house Italdesigns , famously the domain of Giorgetto Giugiaro. It debuted at the 1995 Geneva Motorshow and was meant to compete against the Ferrari F355. The Cala was meant to be the "entry level’ Lambo, a replacement for the aging Jalpa.
The design was unusual, but still very good looking. The car featured aero intakes, a wedge shape, and curvy body language. The interior also looked like a true child of the 1990s’ bathed in maroon leather and plenty of rounded surfaces.
On top of all this it wasn’t like The Cala was a static show car, it had a 400-horsepower V10 mated to a glorious 6-speed manual transmission. The V10 foreshadowed the Gallardo to come. The Cala was meant to go into production under the guise of Lamborghini owners, an Indonesian family called Megatech. However Megatech ran out of money and as we all know sold it to Volkswagen Group. VW candled plans for The Cala and instead developed a new entry-level model, the Gallardo.
