If you continue necroposting after being silenced, I’ll double your silence duration every time you make a necropost (24h, 48h, 96h…), and it’s exponential

necroposting genuinely seems like such a non issue idk why it needs to get moderated

prolly bc its bringing additional effort for mods to check different old topics (since their mission is to moderate the platform)

especially when the posted content is unrelated to the topic or unnecessary

sometimes mods may get annoyed from repeated necroposting

then some regulations may be installed like in this case

Checking an old post takes a total of one second, because the method for reading old posts is just clicking on whatever is unread in the latest tab. In my experience almost nobody replies to old posts except the person who revives it, so it’s not like they make any clutter.

Forum mods really have 2 jobs, one is splitting merging and unlisting duplicate bug reports and suggestions, and also making sure the community doesn’t go rabid.

There’s no moderation for something you “find annoying” because that’s not how rules work. It feels like Stormlend is only enforcing this because of a personal annoyance rather than the fact that it’s an actual issue. I’m even more inclined to believe that because he’s the only mod who I’ve seen enforce it.

The only additional moderating effort here is just self-imposed and not necessary.

Ok let me explain the issues:

  • If you let everyone necropost as much as they want it could quickly become chaotic because, as cosmo said, the forum is much more active today than in the past few years

  • I’m bringing up punishments here because this specific user was told off many times but doesn’t seem to take care about that, but most of the time necroposting is not that big of a deal

  • You may feel like I’m the only one who’s got issues with that but that’s not the case, I’m just the first to see those messages due to my timezone and to the fact I’m pretty active, nothing personal. On the contrary, you seem to be the only one not annoyed by this issue, because from what I’ve seen other members are annoyed with it as well

  • We don’t do that because of rules written in the guidelines but rather for reasons of basic etiquette, considering the number of active users on this forum

  • Finally, this may seem strange to you, and I understand your point, but things have changed a lot since early 2023
