Derby Strats

What cars do you guys use in derby and how do you win your derby games. I’m planning on getting better at derby so I wanna know what you guys do

Beginner: Ford Focus RS
Experienced: Chevrolet Corvette C8
Pro: Lamborghini Egoista or McLaren MP4/4

Basically just try to hit everyone as hard as you can and try to use reversing into nearby slow-moving cars to your advantage, and use respawns liberally

If you try to knock someone out a couple times and have them pinned but can’t get them out in a couple hits, back away and find the next person

beginner: Either the Ford Focus or the Mitsubishi 3000gt VR4, but the camaro z28 and the little mid engine car are excellent and honestly better than the focus
experienced: Hummer EV or the supercharged mustang (although the latter is a limited. If you dont have this one, then the c8 and hummer EV is your best bet.
Pro: Pretty much any Bugatti, but the Tourbillon is great.

pro: avoid*

nah but for real pro is laughably broken. Derby altogether needs a ton of work i dont even touch it anymore because of how bad the physics/balance is

beginner is honestly all i really poke around on anymore when i do

pro should just stop at the first tier 3 after the xtrema
and then make a new derby server with all the rest

i find experienced is probably the best of the three

experienced can be quite fun

the physics imo seriously need tweaked though the damage is INCREDIBLY inconsistent.
edit: hitting a target at high speeds does virtually nothing in my experience

also if your ping is even slightly inconsistent you deal zero damage

thats true. I also wonder if some of the damage scaling/multiplying is based on fps metrics between the opponent and the attacker. For instance, if one person is like 60fps or below and one (like me) is 165, that could be part of the issue

i seriously think ping has something to do with it though but it didnt used to be this bad
a couple of years ago the physics were great (albeit the hitboxes were worse)

With a ram.
Fully tuned.

for beginner, I main both the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 and Lancia Stratos (event limited), both deal good damage, but the Stratos is more defense oriented, and the 3000GT is more attack oriented
I avoid using tier 2 & 3 spawns
I’d recommend using the Go-Kart for evasion based gamemodes

for experienced, I mained the Toyota 222D (it’s a bit of a pocket rocket, and can sustain some hits relatively well, but can easily get pushed around and is also a limited), but I’ve transitioned to using both the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 (it’s also a limited) and Nissan GT-R R35
for tier 2 spawns, use the Volvo Iron Knight (it’s also a limited), but if you don’t have it, use the Dynex Hubus C5
for tier 3, I generally avoid it considering my tier 2 spawns are already good enough
I’d recommend the Magnum MK5 or BAC Mono for evasion based gamemodes

for pro, I mained the Brabus Rocket 900 for some time, but I’ve found it does get targetted a bit, and also deals less damage than some of the other options I use, so I’d recommend the Bugatti Centodieci if you have it, the Gavanni Ezio also works pretty well from my experience, both have great acceleration and handling
for tier 2, I’d use the Trelet Barshky 4x4, it’s very fast for a turreted vehicle, and also does good amounts of damage, one downside is that the wheels can easily get knocked off from a few good hits
for tier 3, I’d recommend the nuke truck, as it’s hard to find servers that don’t use tier 4 spawns, use it to get some serious damage and farm score from the blown up parts you’ve used
for tier 4, it’s pretty obvious that the P1000 Ratte is your best option, it deals serious damage all around, but you will have to be aware of tier 3 spawns that could damage you, such as the aforementioned nuke truck
I’d recommend the McLaren MP4/4 for evasion based gamemodes

now for strategy, for using tiered spawns, try using larger tiers first to circumvent the cooldown they have, but be aware of other tier 2+ spawns
just choose which tiers you feel comfortable with starting out, there’s no real concrete strategy to tier usage

for FFA and other knockout based gamemodes like Team Conversion, I’d recommend picking off weaker cars that have an exposed engine, or have a fragile body, they will give you easy knockouts, but be aware of other people that will go after those cars
you can take advantage of crowds over those weaker cars and aim for their driver seat to instantly knock them out if the driver seat is barely protected by a thin body panel, or is exposed, but you can also aim for the engine if its exposed
now for a sub-category of weak cars, which are cars with missing wheels, if the car has 2 out of 4 wheels, you can aim for one of the wheels for a knockout, as vehicles will automatically get knocked out if they only have one wheel remaining, but go for the options above if they are available instead
generally, it’s a good idea to know all the weak spots of your opponents, such as engine vulnerabilities, wheel vulnerabilities, or any weak parts that allows for easier knockouts
avoid targetting tier 2+ vehicles in good condition with a tier 1, as those spawns can very easily knock you out instead due to their increase damage output
if you have a tier 2+, you can feel free to just curbstomp spawns that are the tiers below you, but stay aware of tiers above you (if applicable)

if you get very damaged to the point of a one-tap knockout, avoid any sort of interaction with other players at any cost, and try not to wreck yourself

for evasion based gamemodes, avoid any attackers at any cost, and try to stay moving as you will have a harder time escaping a situation if you have to accelerate from a standstill position, and if you have any advantage you have to make yourself safer from an attacker, such as unfreezing someone in freeze tag, take it
trailing behind attackers can work very well if done properly, but it is more risky than outright avoiding the attackers

for tank battle, choose a low-mid sized tank such as the Panzer III or WDZ 130 (I’d choose the Panzer as it is more heavily armored than the WDZ, and does not have a very vulnerable turret barrel), larger tanks will draw lots of attention, but very weak tanks will also draw some attention
always stay moving to prevent yourself from getting targetted, as if you get crippled enough, people will start targetting you, and from there it is very hard to escape alive
pick off at enemies from a distance so they will have a harder time noticing you, it helps to minimize damage

for juggernaut, aim for the wheels or tracks of the juggernaut, this should be obvious why it is the most effective way of taking down a juggernaut
make sure to focus on the juggernaut farthest away from you (if applicable), as you can build up more speed to deal more damage to the juggernaut, and repeat this process
if you have powerups, make sure to use them on tier 4 juggernauts only, they won’t work on tier 3 juggernauts, use the same aiming strategies as mentioned above (distance yourself from the tier 4 juggernaut, and strike when best)

now for powerups, the shield is pretty self explanatory, activate it right before somebody impacts you so the enemy gets damaged from their impact into you, and use that time to knock out the attacker if possible, and also take advantage of it to knock out other opponents
you can also use the shield to stall until you can respawn, preventing anybody from knocking you out

for the rocket booster, I would save this for tier 2/3 vehicles, as you can deal some serious damage to those if you aim at the right spot, but this is not very effective on tier 4 spawns as they are far too armored to be effective
if necessary, use this to also knock out an annoying tier 1 spawn, or to get out of a pinch where you’re getting teamed on

for the boulder (and tank shells + nuke truck explosion by extension), use it to demolish parts of tier 2+ vehicles, and aim for critical parts to make knocking those spawns easier
like with the rocket booster, you can use it to knock out an annoying tier 1 spawn, or to get out of a pinch if necessary
for the more explosive options, use them on tier 3+, as using them on tier 1/2 spawns is more of a last resort to get one last knockout, using them on tier 3+ vehicles allows for good damage to make knocking out those vehicles much easier, and also makes for a more beneficial knockout

for the shredder, it’s similar to the boulders and other long range damage dealers, but has a different usage, as its more effective on tier 1 spawns than tier 2+ spawns, as you can shred through parts more easiliy on those
avoid letting others drive into your shredder, as it can destroy the shredder and leave you vulnerable
this is also applicable to vehicles with built-in shredders, but you don’t need to worry about shredder durability as much

for the electric pulse, use it on tier 1 spawns that are fragile, as you can get an instant knockout from the destruction of all the weak parts it incinerates
this can be used to destroy lots of weak parts on tier 1 spawns, allowing you to get parts easily
this can also be used for crowd control, but is less effective than using it on single targets due to the limited blast radius, but can still give you a lot of parts for score

for score, it’s generally very simple, aim for getting knockouts as opposed to parts, as knockouts give a larger sum of score most of the time
however, if you can get a lot of parts for score very easily (like 50+ parts in one go), then aim for those instead, as getting parts generally doesn’t damage your vehicle as much, you can destroy a lot of parts of knocked out tier 1 spawns if you want to attempt this
dealing damage in tank battle and juggernaut also falls under the parts category

I know this is a lot of stuff to read, but it’s a bit hard to condense a lot of the case specific information into a general area, I hope this helps anybody that reads this

the revuelto has been found to be quite decent recently

the brabus is a monster in pro under the right circumstances its enormous for a sedan and extremely heavy. very nice derby car but it does seem to have a issue with getting targetted, not sure why.

gotta love private derby scumming for the parts
