2011 Mercedes-Benz Unimog Concept

Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks has presented the Unimog Concept, a futuristic design study that celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Unimog truck model.

Many do not know that not only premium cars are produced under the Mercedes-Benz brand, but also trucks, which began to appear shortly after the Second World War, namely in 1951. Trucks are produced under the brand name Unimog, an acronym for the German “UNIversal Motor Gerat”. These vehicles are famous for their high cross-country ability, they can be seen in the jungle, in the mountains and in the deserts, and they are used by the military and firefighters, and even participate in the Paris-Dakar rally.

Mercedes-Benz’s Special Trucks military vehicle has unveiled a conceptual open-top truck to celebrate 60 years since the introduction of the Unimog all-terrain vehicle. The car was shown to the public at the Daimler concern in Wörth during a ceremony.

According to Special Trucks, the design of the unusual prototype “blends avant-garde features from past and future Unimog all-terrain vehicles.” At the same time, in the process of creating the style of this machine, the developers were inspired by poisonous dart frogs. This is due to the bright colors in which the car is made - a bright green body and red suspension springs. In addition, according to the company, the concept “just like a dart frog, will be able to easily move through the forest, water and impassable swamp.”

The concept car is based on the heaviest and most powerful Unimog all-terrain vehicle - the U5000. What engine is used in the prototype is not specified. The production car is equipped with a 4.8-liter diesel engine developing 218 horsepower and 810 Nm of torque.
