i’m scared
so yeah, in 2001 HKS wanted to break the Tsukuba record specifically with a tuned time attack car, so they spent close to 47 million yen (somewhere around 300,000 usd) on custom building an Altezza specifically to get the record
HKS designed a special tube-frame chassis to build the whole thing on, and attached fully carbon fiber body panels and aero to save weight
Eventually the only original parts left from the Altezza donor car they used was the taillights and headlights, and the rear doors were molded into the body
Eventually the TRB-01 ended up putting about 600 bhp, not much by today’s time attack standards but considering how light it was it didn’t really matter
The TRB-01 set a final time of 55.8 seconds at Tsukuba, then was put into storage permanently
It now intermittenly appears at auto shows alongside other HKS time attack cars
