1995 Toyota Celica GT-Four Rally Car (ST205)

(this is not to be confused with the road car suggestion linked here)

ah yes, the infamous turbo cheat car

now the car wasn’t particularly successful in the 1994 WRC season, so I won’t really be going over that, but the turbo cheat in 1995 is definitely the spotlight here

now the rivalry and competition between Toyota and Subaru was tight, as Subaru had been a very close contender with their Impreza rally car, having barely beaten them in the previous season using the previous generation ST185 rally cars

however, Toyota had a little trick hidden inside the ST205 Celica, and that was a flange in the turbo restrictors that allowed extra air to get inside the turbos, essentially granting the car a 50 horsepower boost, and for cars that were restricted to 300 hp at most, this was a significant boost in power

now this could’ve been the perfect cheat, and the flange was made in such a way that made it nearly impossible to detect during inspections, as there was a spring that would push it closed, making it seamless

Subaru grew suspicious of the power that the Celica possessed, and it warranted further enough suspicion to investigate the cars further, where the turbo cheat would finally be found at the
Rallye Catalunya, where Toyota, and all their drivers would be stripped of their “hard-earned” points, and a ban for the rest of the season

the ST205 Celica is an interesting look at how cheating in motorsports gets to places it would never expect to, with this one being a notably famous example, with the FIA president at the time, Max Mosley, calling the turbo cheat “the most sophisticated device I’ve ever seen in 30 years of motorsports”

with the interesting little note about the turbo cheat, onto specs:

this car is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 engine
this car is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox
this car does 0-60 mph in around 4.5 seconds (estimate, I’m not really sure about performance figures)
top speed is 254 km/h (158 mph)
engine produces 298 hp at 5,600 rpm (although this would probably be closer to ~350 hp with turbo cheat included, maybe make the turbo power upgrade on this give a substantial power increase just to reference it)
peak torque is 500 Nm (369 lb ft) at 3,750 rpm
vehicle drivetrain is AWD
vehicle weight is 1,200 kg (2,646 lbs)
vehicle length is 4,424 mm (174.2 in)
vehicle width is 1,770 mm (69.7 in)
vehicle height is 1,330 mm (52.4 in)
vehicle wheelbase is 2,545 mm (100.2 in)

fictional name would be Tayatzi Celtic P-Four Race Edition
derby tier is 1
should be priced around 10M
vehicle will be available for free

acceleration is 10.4
handling is 17.8
braking is 13
race class is B 71
attack score is 48
defense score is 77
