this car was made specifically for the US market as a result of racing teams pressuring BMW to make homologation road cars of a new M3 race car, and it ended up working, which is this car right here
now to continue off of the small motorsport history that was hinted at, the E36 generation M3 ended up being fairly successful in the IMSA GT class, until it eventually got outclassed by the Porsche 911 of the same class, which would eventually lead to the E46 M3 being used, but that’s another story for another time
now because US emissions regulations were strict, BMW had to opt to use a lower spec S50B30US engine as opposed to the normal S50 engine, meaning that there were lower power figures compared to the European spec cars, but with all the weight savings (as you could probably tell by the name), it didn’t hinder the performance as much as you would expect
some body changes were made to the car which would differentiate it from the base model, most notably being the rear wing, and an adjustable front splitter, and some aluminum body panels instead of steel, along with a custom paintjob exclusive to this car
one cool thing that this car had was some optional parts that were supplied in the trunk of the car, which consisted of a racing oil pan, suspension parts, and an adjustable rear spoiler (installation of these parts would void the warranty, and additionally would make the car not road legal anymore)
