1969 Lotus 62

NAME: 1969 Lotus type 62
If you ever wondered what Lotus did after the type 47, you’re looking in the right place. The type 62 was a race car made for the Group 6 Prototype class, following similar body shapes to the 47 and the Europa. Only 2 instances were made for racing purposes and years later it served as inspiration for the Radford type 62-2, a pikes-peak car. There was also 2 replicas of it made by Europa Engineering: a 62S and a 1/8th scale direct replica.

UPD: The car as seen in the “pre race aero” pics was the first ever iteration which raced in the '68 BOAC 500, whereas the newer aero was added for the '69 race as seen in sources below (now sepparated from the rest of the links)

Below I’ve left the links to every website i used for references, in case the images/info could help.

Engine (the car uses a Lotus 904 engine derived as a mix with a Vauxhall 2 litre)

  • Engine from the replica

  • A “hybrid” test version of the 905 engine, based on the 904, that was put in this chassis for testing. Exhaust system and mount are very similar to the original.
