i thought trimming originally meant removing excess stuff

trim has many different meanings

like how 音乐 and 快乐 have the same last character but have totally different pinyin and meaning

in chinese characters, its a whole different story lol like edward scissorhands 剪刀手爱德华 can turn into 剪刀手爱劉德华 translation: scissorshands likes andy lau (a celebrity that u might know)
