This is regarding the thing any active member of Car Crushers community or Roblox user is familiar with. Roblox recently done the unimaginable and locked its chat system that it’s had for 20 years behind this age verification system. Requiring either using a valid ID, or this AI face scanner to “determine” your age. It then will put you into a segregated category of users of who can/can’t talk to.
They didn’t even bother to at least add back the old chat bubble from back in the day that let you choose from a list of messages for basic communication mainly with the old guests since they couldnt type chat (who here remembers this?)
Originally this verification only applied to the newly implemented (and honestly crap) voice chat, which is understandable but now you have to verify and put your personal info in to a site that has a notorious history of data leaks and accounts being compromised just to simply text chat and it will be very limited on who you can even talk to in a game cause the age groups and people not wanting to verify.
This new system completely ruins the social interactions many Roblox games have, makes games that require player coordination and teamwork nearly impossible, you can’t even chat with your friends anymore unless use this “trusted connection” feature, RPG type games are basically screwed and that genre will likely die in the coming months. The reasons for this change regarding safety is even more outrageous when the whole use of AI and putting you into certain age groups can be easily exploited by like groomers, stalkers and such.
Overall this change is gonna completely ruin Roblox as an interactive community, by forcing friends to have to resort to like 3rd party apps (Discord, TeamSpeak etc) to communicate while playing something. Games that actually require chatting are now gonna be difficult to manage. Additionally this system violates peoples’ rights of privacy, putting them at risk having their personal info leaked (that will be another lawsuit incoming). You are pretty much punishing everybody for the actions of a few and it’s not even fixing the problem it aims to.
So with that out of the way Car Crushers being that it’s a large community and Panwellz, should join up with other communities on Roblox in the protests against this change with the chat. Game devs especially need to take a stance cause rumors going around gonna be required just to access studio next. Write complaints about the negatives this brings or how it will impact your game. Refuse to promote special events. Boycott even by not buying Robux or builders club. Try to organize in-game gatherings like some have been doing already consisting of people refusing to verify.
Honestly all that needs to be done is add a system to simply disable the chat. Basically a parental control system that allows enabling/disabling the chat or having filters on, and being able to receive or send friend requests, maybe even filter out certain games and these settings would be behind a passcode. That would actually allow parents/guardians to better prevent their kids from potentially interacting with people they shouldn’t be and keep them safe, and not be risking personal info being compromised. Maybe share this concept too or something similar to it.
